J-MRL Reads is a place for you to both find and leave information about books. We are collecting suggestions for good reads from library staff members and from our users. Using the categories link on the left sidebar is the best way to browse the wiki for content (see the section just below on how categories work in the wiki for more information). You can also type a term into the search box, located on the left sidebar as well. Check back often for updated lists or add your own favorites. Find out what staff are reading now

This wiki is run by the staff of Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (Charlottesville, Va.) For technical questions contact Bob or Ginny. EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: When naming new articles, unless your title consists of a very general term describing a category of books that exists across all age ranges, please specify adult, young adult, or juvenile in parentheses as part of the title. For example, if you're starting a new article on Young Adult ghost stories, don't name your article "Ghost Stories": please name it "Ghost Stories (young adult)".

Wiki User Community

Anyone can edit this wiki! Please feel free to add new categories, new pages, and edit content already here. You can also add external links, as appropriate. You do need to register (create an account) to be able to edit though. This helps protect the wiki from vandalism and spam. When registering click the button to send email confirmation. You'll get an email shortly, which will contain a link. Click the link to send confirmation of your email address. Once you've done this you should be able to log in and edit away. Please do give your real name when registering (though your real name need not be your user signature). Authors may not promote their own books on this wiki!

Every page has a history tab. Click it to see the editing history of the page, which also shows the signature of the user that made the changes or edits. Every page has a discussion tab as well, where users can make comments or talk back and forth about a page. When you write on a discussion page you should sign your entries.

If you're going to edit the wiki, it would be nice if you would add yourself to the Wiki User List. Just click on the edit tab to see how to format your entry. Your entry in the list should link to your user page where you can write a bit about yourself. If you edit the wiki a lot, you may establish a reputation, and other users may like to know who you are.

Guidelines for Use of the Wiki

Categories in the Wiki

Click here to see the list of all categories in the wiki: Wiki Categories. Categories are a tool for organizing the content of the wiki into topical groupings. A category is simply a group of articles with a "category tag" in common. Or said another way, you don't "put" an article in a category, you put a "category tag" into an article. This then makes the article findable by listing it under that category. Of course you can also use the search box to look for stuff in the wiki.

Every category also has a "category page". This is a page with an introductory note explaining what the category is about, and the category page also automatically generates an alphabetical list of article titles that are in the category. If you want to add a new category to the wiki, just add the tag for the new category at the end of your article. The link to the new category page will be in red, indicating that it does not exist yet. Click the link to create the category page. Please check the list of categories before adding a new one, to see if there is already a category that covers the content. Please, please consider new category names carefully, because while articles can be renamed fairly easily using the move tab it is a non-trivial matter to rename a category.
