Young adult books are generally written for the middle and high school age reader. In practice, this is somewhat misleading as sometimes children will start reading in young adult as early as 5th or 6th grade, while good readers in the high school years have often moved to adult books. However many high schoolers continue to read young adult books throughout high school and often adults enjoy and read young adult books as well.
