Whether or not literature is really a limited collection of stories endlessly recycled, no one doubts that the originally Welsh Mabinogion and its English incarnation as the legends of King Arthur have been an unusually rich source of inspiration.

Includes the story of King Arthur and his knights of the round table but is mostly about the clash between the Christians and the old pagan religion told mostly from the perspective of two priestesses of the mist concealed magical island of Avalon. An entertaining and very long read, it's a bit of a sexy soap opera version, yet dealing with weightier issues of religion as well, sort of like "Star Trek" for early Christian Britain. The viewpoint is very anti-Christian and may be offensive to some.
