Playaways

There is a new way for listening to audio books from the Library. JMRL is now offering Playaways, a palm-sized digital audio book which comes pre-loaded with a complete audio book. You can check for the newest playaway arrivals.

• What is a PLAYAWAY?
  The newest format of audio, combining a wide variety of content with an easy-to-use player all in one small unit. When you receive your Playaway, all you have to do is press power on and press 'play' to start listening immediately - there is no need for a separate player.
• How long are they?
  Each Playaway contains an entire book, regardless of length (up to 80 hours!)
• Where are these in the library?
  Each branch library will have Playaways and they will be near the audiobooks. There will be adult, young adult and kid's Playaways. They will be listed in the online catalog. Info on how to find them.
• Do I need anything special to listen?
  Just headphones or earbuds - but these are not provided by the library.
• Do they need batteries or earphones?
  Yes, but both batteries and earphones are not included. Patrons must provide their own.
• How long will they circulate?
  The circulation period is the same as all audiobooks, 3 weeks with 1 renewal if the item is not on hold for another patron.
• Is there a limit a patron can check out at one time?
  There is no limit.
• Are there overdue fines? How much?
  The fine is the same as other audiobooks, $.50/per day
• Can patrons listen to them in their cars?
  Some newer cars have jacks to listen to iPods through the speakers. This will also work for Playaways.
• What makes a Playaway unique?
  • A very easy way to listen to a book - just turn on and press play!
  • Each Playaway is an entire book.
  • A Playaway weighs only 2 ounces and can easily fit in a pocket for portability and multitasking.
  • They come with an automatic bookmark function that remembers where you have left off.
  • Has a universal headphone jack so you can listen in virtually any environment.
